There's no place like home?

Tonight I heard an interesting perspective on the old line "There's no place like home" from the Wizard of Oz. It's the one line that everybody remembers from the movie, but it doesn't resonate with the rest of the movie. Think about it, home is this desolate, grey dust bowl of a place where some nasty old lady is trying to kill your dog and OZ is technicolor. Sure it has its problems; poppy fields, talking trees, flying monkeys but along the way you make friends, good friends. With people that you never even knew existed when you were growing up, straw people, tin people and lions. And you help each other realize that all the things you want to be, you already are and it's fun!

It makes me think about all the exciting things in life that we miss because we are too afraid of something new. Friend's are important, they can help you broaden your horizons and become the person you were meant to be. But you also have to step off that ledge sometime and try something new.
