A camping we will go.
We headed out earlier this week for a nice little family camping trip. I originally wanted to go to Glacier National Park but with gas prices we decided to stick a little closer to home. So we went to the Southeast corner of Washington. We started out at a park about 6 miles from Clarkston on the snake river but since we don't have a boat and we don't particularly care for skunks as neighbors (we spent most of our 1st evening watching a skunk meander around the campsite next to us, prepared at any moment to grab all of our things and run into the camper should he get to close) and wet everything to hang out on (in the morning they start up their sprinklers which cover every square inch of ground along with the picnic table and most of the driveway that the truck is parked on) we moved on.
We ended up finding a really nice KOA park a little further SW. It didn't have much in the way of amenities but the sites were nice and they used their sprinklers at 3am so that things were fairly dry by the time we got up and about. They have a play area and we got to try out horseshoes, badminton, croquet plus they have a neat fountain area and water worms that we used for a great water fight.
The next day we went to one of their local lakes (they had 9 of
them) and tried our hands at fishing. Bug wasn't that in to it and we didn't have a great spot so we went hiking instead (see pics). They had a beautiful but rustic hike up to a waterfall. It seemed to take forever getting there since the trail is pretty much nonexistent in some places, but in reality it was only about 3/4 of a mile. The waterfall was beautiful and the water was very cold (we heard it was 42 degrees) and crystal clear.
Afterwards we headed back to the campsite and I cooked up some salmon (from home) and Bug found some kids around the campground to play with. In the morning we had a nice breakfast then took a roundabout way home and got home in the early afternoon. It was a very relaxing trip.
